In my head, there is a mirror

Five Years.

FIVE YEARS.

On Friday, I had an anniversary.

Five Years Relationship-Free.

Yes. Ever since that gut-wrenching night when I gave Glenn the boot, I have not been in a position where someone was referred to as my "boyfriend" or "significant-other" for five years.

Oh, I've had sex since then, but not with people I wanted to have around for long in my life afterwards.

I'd like to think of myself as not being ugly or undesireable. I've had a number of men approach me on the street or pursue me in some manner related to carnal interest. However, when weighing the pros and cons of getting into such a situation, I find that the cons far outweigh the pros.

Pros:
-Someone to sleep with
-Someone to call when bail is needed (never has been an issue, but you never know)
-Someone to help with schleping furniture up the stairs
-Someone to go to restaurants with (I have a strange phobia about going to restaurants alone--other things I'm fine with, just that is an issue)
-Sperm

Cons:
-Will more than likely cheat on me (hey, only three of my boyfriends EVER didn't to my knowledge, so the odds are that they will)
-Will tell me what they think I should or should not be spending my money on
-Will need to have their ego stroked--constantly
-Will get pissy if I prove to be better than they are at any number of activities (see ego-stroking above)
-Will be a resource-sucking device
-Will more than likely use me to address some misguided mommy-issue of their past
-Will forever act like a child

So, as you see, the cons to having a relationship, in my experience, far outweigh the pros.

I am able to support myself and a child, should I ever have one. I am always gauranteed to be sexually satisfied on my own. I am able to depend upon my friends for companionship, conversation, and help with any heavy-lifting that may rear its head. And, well, there are sperm-banks out there and cloning technologies are improving every day. So, why bother?

Yup, an anniversary to be marked and 'membered.
