Is it really art to paint something someone else sculpted?

I have spent the past two hours carefully trimming bits of metal and seam-lines in D&D miniatures...well, miniatures intended to be used in a few D&D campaigns...in preparation for painting them later this week. On my way home from work, I stopped in at a huge art supply store and found myself asking that question as I watched the young art students getting items for their projects.

I will sort of maintain it is a 1/2 art for me.

I used to paint a lot though. I miss it. Perhaps I will go back to the art supply store sometime this winter and replenish my 2-dimensional base painting supplies and get back into that game a bit.
